Football coach Eddie Metcalf of Watulla Middle School, has faced criticism for kneeling along with his players during a pregame prayer.
The coach is seen taking a knee in a video posted on Facebook by Keith Whitfield, a team member’s parent.
“Act of reverence” is against the law according to the Wakulla County School Board.
Superintendent Robert Pearce told television station WCTV “That’s not allowable under the law. The coach may not participate in the prayer.”
“Freedom From Religion Foundation” organization called his actions “unconstitutional” by promoting religion on the job and they complained to the school board.
The Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players, taking a knee during the national anthem throughout this season, seems to have sparked the controversy.
Social media has people jumping in to show support for Metcalf’s actions.
