President Elect Trump is not happy with the cost of the new Air Force One Plane that has been ordered. He blasted Boeing for the cost of a new fleet of Air Force One planes saying that the price tag is “out of control.”
Trump first took to Twitter to blast Boeing and then spoke to reporters minutes later at Trump Tower.
Two or more 747 planes are contracted to be built to replace the older Reagan-era aircraft. They would not be ready until 2924, which means Trump would not be flying in them unless he won a second term.
The Air Force is pressing for a faster timeline saying the planes used now are becoming too expensive to repair and keep in good shape.
It was projected that the contract would be around $3 billion for two new jets, which had been said to cost $1.65 billion but details had not been reached. The Wall Street Journal reported that Boeing was the only bidder on the planes.
Trump told reporters inside Trump Tower, “The plane is totally out of control, It’s going to be over $4 billion for Air Force One program and I think it’s ridiculous. I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money.”
Trump had stocks in Boeing which he sold in June Spokesman Jason Miller told reporters. Miller said the details of any cancellation would be handled when the inauguration was final.
Jim McNerney, an ex-Boeing chairman, president and CEO, has just been appointed by Trump to chair a board of executive advisers on economic, regulatory and labor matters. McNerney retired from Boeing in March 2016.
China may enter into the picture here, as well. In September Boeing said China was set to buy $1 trillion worth of its planes within the next 20 years.
Trump has singled out China for “making it hard for companies to compete.”
I patiently wait for January 20/17. A lot of changes are due to happen at a very quick rate of time.
