Firefighter Plunges 5 Stories While Battling Blaze In NYC [RAW VIDEO]

A city firefighter died Thursday afternoon after a five-story plunge from the roof of a burning Queens apartment building, sources told the Daily News.

The unidentified first responder was pronounced dead shortly after he fell from the building on Putnam Ave. near Wyckoff Ave. in Ridgewood just after 2:20 p.m., according to the FDNY.

Mayor de Blasio was on his way to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center to visit the injured smoke eater when the firefighter died at the hospital. He was brought to the hospital in cardiac arrest, sources said.

“It sounded like an explosion when he fell,” said witness Angie Cordero, 43, who lives across the street. “People from above could see the blood from his head. A worker nearby got sick when he saw it.”

The firefighter was apparently moving from an FDNY bucket to the roof when he misstepped and fell, the eyewitness said. Paramedics on the scene rushed the firefighter to the Queens hospital.
