Pulitzer Winning Journalist: Comey Wouldn’t Reopen Case Without a Bombshell

Carl Bernstein, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his part in bringing down Richard Nixon says that the reopening of Hillary’s email case wouldn’t have happened unless there is a bombshell revelation in the evidence that the FBI has found.  CNN’s Brooke Baldwin interviewed bernstein on the reopening of the FBI investigation.  Bernstein says that Hillary has no one to blame but herself for her current dilemma.  He said it was her decision to set up the private server and that is indefensible.

“We don’t know what this means yet except that it’s a real bombshell.  And it is unthinkable that the director of the FBI would take this action lightly, that he would put this letter forth to the Congress of the United States, saying there is more information out there about classified emails and call it to the attention of Congress, unless it was something requiring serious investigation.”

“So the confluence of all of this is bad for her as it stands now but with some knowledge she might be able to stop, turn things around, and give us some idea of what’s going on in a way we might not otherwise know.”

If the emails in question are in fact classified but do not reveal any intent of the sender to unlawfully disclose national security information then I think the matter will be handled the same way as the investigation was while it was closed.

However, if the emails in question contain evidence to suggest further pay-to-play at the Clinton foundation, evidence that subjects of the investigation lied to the FBI, someone tried to obstruct the FBIs investigation, or that someone did in fact intentionally disclose classified national security information, then this case could lead to a criminal indictment in short order.

So while the exact nature and classification of the emails in question are unclear, I think it is safe to assume that they contain significant evidence of criminal activity.

If not, then FBI Director Comey, a man otherwise known to have unquestionable integrity, will have some serious questions to answer.
