The recent suicide of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was devastating to so many fans who adored him. There were also so many questions surrounding his death as it seemed he had been in good spirits and his career was thriving. Many looked to his girlfriend Asia Argento for some answers and, in a statement, she explained she was “devastated” by Bourdain’s death.
Bourdain had hanged himself while staying at the Le Chambard hotel in Kaysersberg, France, where he was filming an episode of his CNN show Parts Unknown.
Bourdain met Argento when they shot an episode of the show in December 2016. Recently, there was speculation about whether the two were still a couple, when pictures of Argento walking around Rome with journalist Hugo Clement, hugging, and laughing made the rounds. The photos came just days after Bourdain bought a painting with the title “The world is falling down, I am learning to live with it.”
In the same interview he also talked about his daughter, Ariana, saying that because of her, he felt “some responsibility” to “at least try to live.”
He also shared: “There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, ‘I’ve had a good run — why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing… jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth.’” He added, “In retrospect, I don’t know that I would do that today — now that I’m a dad or reasonably happy.”
Among the many comments that people wrote on the Daily Mail’s coverage of the story, was one person who hoped this tragedy could bring more awareness to mental health issues, explaining: “Never realized how much he has long looked like a tortured soul. Very sad that this was his only solution for his idea of peace. Let’s hope for a #DepressionMeToo movement so people start to open up about how hard life can be and encourage each others to keep going, seek healing and make it through life’s trials.”
