There.  That sets the mood.  For many years, NASA has hidden a conversation between Apollo 10 astronauts that were hearing “music’ as the explored the dark side of the moon.

“Did you hear that whistling sound, too?”

“Sounds like, you know, outer-space type music.”

“I wonder what it is.”

NASA has now decided to release the conversation and they now blame the music as nothing more than communications interference.  That is not a proven fact though.  Representatives for Pink Floyd have refused comment.

Eugene Cernan and John Young were the astronauts exploring the far side of the moon.  During the course of their work, they were cut off from all communications from the Earth.  That’s when they heard what they described as space music.  They were able to record what they were hearing so the scientists back home could determine exactly what it was.

Apollo 11 pilot Michael Collins also heard it as he was exploring the dark side alone:

“There is a strange noise in my headset now, an eerie woo-woo sound.  Had I not been warned about it, it would have scared the hell out of me. … Fortunately, the radio technicians (rather than the UFO fans) had a ready explanation for it: it was interference between the LM’s and Command Module’s VHF radios.”
