ISIS has confirmed the death of it’s most well known executioner, who has been seen in propaganda videos, beheading his victims.  Mohammed Emwazi, better known as Jihad John was killed in a drone attack on November 12th of 2015.  The United States had believed they had killed him but confirmation didn’t come until late Tuesday night, January 19th.  Emwazi was a British citizen of Arab heritage.

“On Thursday, the 29th of Muharram, 1437 (Nov. 12, 2015), Abū Muhārib finally achieved shahādah (martyrdom) for the cause of Allah, which he had sought for so long, as the car he was in was targeted in a strike by an unmanned drone in the city of Raqqah, destroying the car and killing him instantly.”

Emwazi was born in Kuwait in 1988 and became the public face of ISIS.  He appeared in the execution videos of reporter James Foley, journalist Steven Sotloff,  U.S. aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, Japanese journalist Kenji Goto and a few lesser known hostages.

At the time of the attack, US Intelligence sources said they were fairly certain that Jihad John had indeed been killed in the drone attack.  Here is the statement made at that time:

“The United States had been tracking Emwazi closely since Wednesday, and he was seen leaving a building and getting into a car Thursday.  Three drones went after that vehicle, which also had another person inside, and two Hellfire missiles were fired.”

Here is what a hellfire missile strike looks close up:

Goodbye, Jihad John.  The world is a better place without you.
