Marine and His Wife Sue High School Over Lessons on Islam

A Marine and his wife are suing the local high school in Maryland over their teaching of Islam in the classroom.  It’s actually more than that.  The high school pushes Islam and denigrate Christianity.  The  Thomas More Law Center is representing the couple in their lawsuit.  These lessons have created controversy all over the country, but this is the first time that anyone has actually sued over it, which may be the very thing needed to end the practice.

The lawsuit was filed by the Thomas More Law Center on behalf of John Kevin Wood and his wife, Melissa. According to the suit, the couple’s daughter and her classmates were forced at La Plata High School to do assignments that seemingly endorsed Islam.

One of the assignments was to write the Islamic creed “Shahada,” which means “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

When the phrase is recited by non-Muslims, Washington Free Beacon reported, it essentially means that the person is converting.

Another assignment made the students memorize and recite the Five Pillars of Islam.

The suit was filed against the Charles County Public School system, the Board of Education and the principal and vice principal of the high school.

From the lawsuit filing:

“Defendants have treated Plaintiffs’ Christian beliefs and heritage as subordinate to Islamic beliefs and heritage, have treated Plaintiffs’ Christian beliefs and heritage with deliberate indifference, and have been hostile toward C.W. and her family.”

Thomas More president Richard Thompson said in a statement:

“Parents must be ever vigilant to the Islamic indoctrination of their children under the guise of teaching history and multiculturalism. This is happening in public schools across the country. And they must take action to stop it.”
