Maxine Waters and Daughter Rake in Big $$ In Endorsement Payments

You’ve hear of the Gambino family, and the Bonnano family and even the Corleone family.  Now, you are about to hear about the Waters family.  It seems that Maxine Waters has been running a cash for endorsement scheme that pumps big bucks into her campaign coffers and by extension into her daughter’s purse.  Here is how it works.  Every campaign season, Maxine Waters sends out 200,000 letters to her constituents with a sample ballot which includes her endorsed candidates.

So, how do you get one of these coveted endorsements?  Cash.  And lots of it.  As much as $45,000 each.  In some cases candidates that can’t pay the money have to credit Waters for a PIK (Payment In Kind) to that candidate.  And to top it off, who do you think is in charge of those mailers?  Maxine’s daughter, Karen.   Karen has made  $43,579  so far this campaign season and she made  $174,000 during the 2014 election cycle.

In 2010, Waters took in a lot of money from some very prominent democrats in California including Gavin Newsome (45k), Kamala Harris (28k) Babs Boxer (5k) and the mailers raked in $181,000 that year.  In 2006 and 2008 Karen was paid   $237,000.  In 2006 Water’s son was paid an additional $14,000.

The thing I find most amazing is that the scheme isn’t even a secret.  Everyone knows about it and the FEC says it’s legal even though the payments exceed the normal amount allowable by campaign finance laws as long as she operates it through her federal campaign.

Waters’ campaign office refused comment on the money making scheme.  I don’t blame them.  The 5th Amendment promises them they don’t have to incriminate themselves.
