Missouri: Closer Than Ever To Banning Abortion

Most conservatives are hot under the collar that their legislators aren’t doing more to get rid of the abortion issue. In Missouri they are closer than ever before to passing a bill that would eliminate it, completely.

EagleRising: The state of Missouri seems to be the first state that is attempting to follow in Oklahoma’s footsteps after the Sooner State moved to ban abortions within their borders.

The Missouri legislature seems to be preparing to pass a similar law that would simultaneously acknowledge the right to life of any “unborn human children at every state of biological development.”

From LifeNews:

On Monday, the House Select Committee on Social Services approved the bill, moving it to the full House for consideration, according to the News-Leader. If approved by the legislature, the measure would be placed on the ballot in November for voters’ approval.

Some believe the resolution would ban abortions completely in Missouri, but state Rep. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove, who proposed the measure, is unsure. He previously said the resolution would lay the groundwork for laws or litigation to end abortion in the future, but it likely would not ban abortions right away because of Roe v. Wade.

“As a former embryo myself, I want that protection for all embryos, present and future,” Moon said, according to the Associated Press. He added his goal is to “set a foundation in the [state] Constitution that protects the health of women and unborn children.”

While the law may not conclusively ban abortion in Missouri, acknowledging the right to life of unborn children would be an important first step in ensuring an end to abortion. Without this basic understanding it becomes very hard to end abortion, because the left can always argue that the rights of the mother outweigh those of “a blob of tissue.” To diffuse this argument we must make sure that we continue pushing the issue and showing that the science proves that the preborn are indeed living human beings. Because of this – they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights – among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

This is a great first step Missouri – keep up the good work!
