NO FLAG BURNING UNDER TRUMP?

If there is one thing we all know about President Elect Trump,  it’s that he loves America and her flag.

Trump has never been shy about hugging the flag to show his love.

Trump took to Twitter upon hearing about a ‘flag burning’ and Tweeted out,  “Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of your citizenship or year in jail.” flag

Although multiple Supreme Court decisions have found flag burning to be protected under the First Amendment, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters that he does not “support or believe in the idea of people burning the American flag.  I support the First Amendment.”

In 2005 the Senator Clinton co-sponsored the Flag Protection Act .  It made flag burning with the intent to incite violence or disturb the peace punishable by a year in jail and a $100,000 fine.

Personally,  I hate to agree with Clinton on any issue but in this case I make an exception.

My belief is that if you love your country,  you take pride in her flag.  I know I take pride in my flag and fly it.  It is illuminated at night,  it never touches the ground and is not flown in inclement weather.

If Americans had the sense to treat their flag with respect,  maybe this country would be in better shape than it is. flag-2

If immigrants wanting to come to this country assimilated,  they would love our flag as much as all good Americans.  As far as I’m concerned,  anyone who does not respect this land and the flag that represents her,  can leave and go live in some other country.

I truly believe that President Elect Trump,  once in office,  will bring this kind of a Bill up again.  I hope it passes.  I love the American flag.
