[PHOTO] Why This Granddaughter’s Touching Note To Ailing Grandfather Went Viral

WIGGINS, MS (WDAM) –

Some of the wisest words oftentimes come from the mouths of children, and that was exactly the case when it came to Cadence Rench.

Cadence, who is 7-years-old, was one of eight grandchildren to Lee Roy Watkins.

According to Cadence’s aunt, Brisen Dyess, Watkins spoiled all of his grandchildren, and was close to Cadence. Then, he fell ill.

“He had a stroke back in February and just hasn’t been in good health since,” Said Dyess. “After my grandma died four years ago, he kind of just slowly let go. I believe a lot of it was him grieving over his wife of nearly 50 years.”

On Thursday morning, Cadence went to see her grandfather at the Covington County Hospital in Collins. Hours before his final moments, she gave him a letter:

“I love you! Get better soon! I will miss you, God is ready! He wants to see you! From, Cadence.”

“It brought a smile to my face, and tears to my eyes,” said Dyess. “A lot of people don’t realize that God is waiting for all of us.”

According to Dyess, Watkins died that same day around 7:00 p.m.

Dyess said during this tough time, she hopes her niece’s letter will remind people of the good in the world.

“I just thought I’d share it, and maybe help brighten someone’s day,” said Dyess.

Visitation for Watkins will be held Sunday, July 26 at Billy M. Kings Colonial Chapel in Collins on Hwy 49 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Monday morning July 27 at Lebenon Baptist Church in Seminary Ms off Hwy 535 at 10 a.m.
