Mary Giannone and Gabriel Torres were arrested last April 20 and charged with the sexual assaults, which prosecutors said occurred between October 2015 and December 2016.

Torres is already registered as a sex offender in North Carolina, where he once lived as a fugitive from child sexual exploitation charges in Tennessee, records show.

Even though Torres remains registered on the North Carolina database, which lists his Westville address in New Jersey, Torres does not appear on the New Jersey State Police’s Megan’s List database.

Prosecutors were not immediately available Saturday afternoon to respond to questions about the registry.

A published report said Torres was arrested in North Carolina in 2009 on charges that he had 400 images of child pornography on a computer he had taken to be repaired in 2006 in Tennessee. Torres fled the state before officers arrested him.

The North Carolina records office says he was found guilty in 2010 and sentenced to six years in Tennessee, although he was released May 5, 2014, a year before prosecutors in New Jersey now say he began sexually assaulting the girl.

Prosecutors did not disclose the girl’s relationship to the pair.

Torres was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child for more than a year. Giannone is charged with sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child for an alleged offense on Oct. 14, 2015.

Based on the authorities, Torres was employed as a driver for a ceilings company while Giannone was a medical assistant but was fired from her job at Advocare Marlton Pediatrics on Route 73, two months before her arrest due to an unrelated incident.

The two live on Concord Avenue in Deptford, which uses a Westville mailing address.

Both remained locked up Saturday pending a court hearing. New Jersey 101.5 could not determine Saturday whether either had an attorney who could speak on their behalf.
