Between 1950 and 2010 No Mass Shootings Where Citizens Can Arm Themselves
John R. Lott Jr has just written a book, The War on Guns: Arming Yourself Against Gun Control Lies. The book is crammed with documentations. Lott found that between the years of 1950 and 2010, there were no mass shootings in areas where gun ownership were allowed. This is an important point. Besides weapons, the one thing a mass killer needs more of than anything else is time. Nidal Hassan used only one handgun and one revolver when he killed 13 people and wounded over thirty others because servicemen were not allowed to carry guns on base at Ft Hood. Hassan was able to get off 220 shots.
In his diary, James Holmes revealed why he picked that particular movie house for his killing spree. It was the only movie house within 20 minutes of his home that banned guns. Holmes was able to kill 12 people and another seventy were injured because no one had the means to defend themselves. Another movie house killer, John Russell Houser, was able to kill three and wound seven because he chose one of only two movie houses that don’t permit guns.
Khalil Abu-Rayyan, a wanna be mass murderer wrote that he wanted to attack a church because they don’t have guns. The Charleston, SC mass murderer, Dylann Roof originally planned to attack the College of Charleston but changed his mind because the college had armed guards. He then attacked the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, killing nine people.
In all just 1% of all mass shootings from 1950 to today occurred in a place where citizens can arm themselves for self defense. That’s a staggering statistic. From the killers themselves we learn that it was no accident or coincidence but rather an integral part in plotting such attacks. Gun free zones are just a target for mass murderers to aim at.
