It is the constitutional right of every American to voice civil discourse if he or she deems necessary. The greatest country in the world was founded on this principal so much so that it is listed Number 1 in the Constitution. That being said because all do not think the same there will sometimes be pushback. And if the person taking a stand is a celebrity of note, the price is much higher. Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos found out very quickly what taking a knee during the National Anthem can cost.
“Although we have enjoyed Brandon Marshall as our spokesperson over the past five months, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) has ended our partnership,” Glenn Strebe, the AAFCU’s president and CEO wrote in a Facebook statement. “AAFCU is a membership-based organization who has proudly served the military community for over 60 years. While we respect Brandon’s right of expression, his actions are not a representation of our organization and membership. We wish Brandon well on his future endeavors.”
It is a shame that this is happening, especially on the 15th anniversary of one of the most horrific attacks on American soil. To think that someone would disrespect the American Flag on the first day of the season of America’s game, is disgusting. This is the one day football fans want to grill out, drink a beer and root for their team. This is not the day anyone wants to discuss politics or to hear someone’s misguided attempt at sounding enlightened.
No, this will not go over well with the American people, and the fans will eventually turn away. The question is, what will the owners and the advertisers do?
Brandon Marshall is allowed to protest, with no problem, but timing is the key, and this is not the time or place.
What do you think?
