Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, has taken measures to ensure the Jade Helm 15 military exercise taking place, just miles from Austin, doesn’t get out of hand. In fact, he has called in the Texas State Guard to keep an eye on Uncle Sam’s activity there.

Conservative Tribune reported that more than 200 citizens of Bastrap County have met with the U.S. Army commander demanding to know if the U.S. government was planning to declare martial law, and/or take their weapons upon suspicion that the U.S Government will turn on Americans. One day later, Abbot ordered the Guard to “facilitate communications between my office and the commanders of the operation to ensure that adequate measures are in place to protect Texans.”

While authorities insist the occupation is just an exercise, and has held similar exercises before, some fear the circumstances could escalate into oppressive actions against Americans.

Jade Helm 15 involves 1,200 soldiers from all branches of the military. The military maintains that the topography of the areas being used for the exercise is ideal for replicating foreign combat zones.

War simulation games have been carried out on American soil before, but the U.S. Army has admitted that the size of this exercise makes it unique.

Additionally, Texas stands to gain financially from the military exercises.

Meanwhile, Bastrop County stands to gain a windfall of $150,000 for its part in the military exercise. The region will host 60 soldiers using two Humvees and a helicopter. Pape believes the people of the county won’t even notice their presence (H/T Newsmax).
