According to recent reports, around one million able-bodied welfare abusers without dependents are set to lose their food stamp benefits courtesy of a bill that President Barack Obama signed into law two years ago.
Vice magazine explained that the bill included $8.7 billion in cuts to food stamps. It should also be noted that Republicans had at the time sought between $20.5 billion and $39.6 billion in cuts, the Conservative Tribune reports.
At the beginning of next month, the state of New York will removed 50,000 able-bodied abusers off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for at least three years.
Due to waivers that are being possessed by a number of counties, many abusers will still be able to retain their benefits. An estimated one million count would be significantly higher if the waivers are not in place.
