GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed last Saturday that undocumented immigrants are often treated better than U.S. veterans in America. His comments were made during a speech at a National Federation of Republican Assemblies event in Nashville.
“[I]llegal immigrants, in many cases, not in all cases, but in many cases, are treated better than our veterans, who are the greatest people we have,” Trump said, according to Breitbart.com.
Trump was reportedly referring to the medical care that veterans get compared to the health care that undocumented immigrants experience in the U.S.
Trump also lashed out at DREAMers, children of undocumented immigrants, who protested his speech outside the venue with their parents.
Trump added that he would win the Latino vote in the 2016 election. However, Patricio Zamorano, executive director of the consulting firm Infoamericas.info, told AFP that Trump’s immigrant bashing will ultimately backfire with Latino voters.
