On Wednesday afternoon, Secret Service officers arrested Renae Kapheim, a 41-year-old Iowa man, who said someone had told me to drive to the White House with a hunting rifle and ammunition. He was charged with possession of an illegal firearm.
The man reportedly approached uniformed Secret Service officers outside the White House gates and told them someone had told him to drive to the president’s home. This prompted the officers to search his car, parked nearby, where they found a .30-30 rifle and ammunition in the trunk.
“This is a case — a much-welcomed one — of things working as they should, but you can also see how things could have had a different outcome,” CNN correspondent Michelle Kosinski reported, referring to recent security breaches.
