For a party that prides itself on being “tolerant,” the extreme left has an odd way of exemplifying it.
For example, you’d think “tolerant” ideologues would at least consider the complexities of something as complex as global warfare.
Remember that conquering Hitler and the Nazis, which appears to be a no-brainer in 2023, was not such a slam dunk while the Third Reich was emerging. America only got engaged after being directly provoked.
While America is not now physically embroiled in a war, the country is clearly investing in one, despite the country’s critical need for such investment.
That is a complicated subject worthy of discussion! But not according to one of the far left’s pagan saints, former Star Trek actor George Takei.
No, in his infinite tolerance and openness, Takei resorted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to reject anyone who questioned America’s never-ending involvement in Ukraine as a foolish Russian shill:

As if that wasn’t enough, Takei couldn’t stop himself from telling Americans to “Be smarter out there. I know for some of you it’s hard.”
This writer, unlike Takei, can easily state that he has no idea whether America’s prolonged commitment in the Ukraine-Russia war is worthwhile.
Perhaps it is. Perhaps it isn’t.
At the very least, it’s worth considering whether the amount and rate of investment are sustainable, especially in light of recent American disasters such as the deadly Maui wildfires and Tropical Storm Hilary.
And all of this is worth discussing. It should not be disregarded as Russian propaganda (recall how the left opposed the Vietnam War? Oh, for simpler times.)
Given all of this, it’s not surprising that Takei’s post was quickly savaged by those who had a variety of issues with his sycophantic rhetoric.

And, because dad jokes will always be popular, there were several comments to Takei’s use of “X,” which is both a frequent placeholder variable and a popular social media platform. Money paid to X and Elon Musk, according to some of the scathing reactions, would be better spent than money sent to Ukraine.
The irony of Takei becoming an instant punching bag is that he could have avoided it all if he had simply listened to his fellow leftists at CNN.
According to a July poll conducted by the network known as the “Clinton News Network,” the majority of Americans reject additional money for Ukraine (55 percent against it) and believe America has done enough in the Ukraine-Russia war (51 percent believe the country has done enough).
So, Mr. Takei, no.
The majority of Americans are not gullible Russian shills.
Instead, they appear to be human individuals with functioning eyes and a working sense of math — but it doesn’t take much to understand that all of the money being given to Ukraine could, at the very least, be useful in the United States as well.
