Local Rancher Stops Bike Robber at Walmart in a Most Unusual Way

roped and tied

A local rancher in Oregon stopped a bike thief in a move seldom seen outside of Hollywood.  The rancher chased the thief on horseback and he roped him and held him til police arrived to take custody of the man.  The man stole the bike out of a bike rack at Walmart and tried to ride away from the woman that owned the bike and several other bystanders there at the time.  He might have made it had the cowboy not shown up and lassoed him to the ground.

Once the bike thief took off, the rancher, Robert Borba, got his horse out of the trailer he was hauling and gave chase.  Chris Adams an officer with the Eagle Point police answered the dispatcher, but when he arrived the thief was on the ground, holding onto a tree with the rope around his ankle.

Officer Adams reported:

“When we arrived, there was a large crowd standing around a younger gentleman who was on the ground, the rope around his ankle, hanging on to a tree.”

Officer Adams arrested  Victorino Arellano-Sanchez at the scene and charged him with theft.

Mr Borba explained his capture of the bike bandit:

“I seen this fella trying to get up to speed on a bicycle.  I wasn’t going to catch him on foot. I just don’t run very fast. use a rope every day, that’s how I make my living. If it catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good.”

Several of the locals watched as Borba lassoed the thief and they found it very amusing.  The woman whose bike was stolen was just grateful to get her bike back.
