First things first. Can we kindly lose the “Happy 4th of July” thing? C’mon. The 4th of July is a date. A place on the calendar. China has a “4th of July.” American patriots don’t celebrate a calendar date. We celebrate Independence Day. There’s a difference.
Now that we’ve got that straightened out – do you want to tick off a lib this Independence Day weekend? Then:
1) Add some defiance to your celebration by watching one or more of these patriotic movies. It’s sure to drive libs nuts. What could be more fun than that?
I’d add TNT’s 1993 sweeping epic, Gettysburg, as well as Mel Gibson’s The Patriot. The latter, if for no other reason than this single scene.* (I love this scene. It speaks volumes without a single word of dialogue):
3) Scare up a copy of the U.S. Constitution. Read it. Out loud. With the fam. Etc. The first line is guaranteed to hack off every black-robed tyrant and lib from here to breakfast. Bonus points if you can quote it. (If you don’t have your own copy of these documents, I might lend you mine. If you ask real nice.)
Don’t forget this, also from The Patriot. The scene* is called No Retreat. Hold the line! Push forward! Frankly, we could use a little of “all of the above” these days, huh?
Okay. I’ve already got Gettysburg and GWTW. Who’s game for the rest? What titles would you add? *Be prepared to explain this to a lib. They probably won’t get it.
