A man was arrested after breaking into a home, where he forced a mother and her 6 year old daughter to strip in front of him, according to the local police in South Carolina.
Nathaniel “Nate” Antron Hunter, 34 year old, was arrested after trying to rape the 6-year-old girl and shot her mother who was only trying to protect her from the assault.
According to investigations, the 6-year-old and her mother were awakened and found Hunter in their bedroom during the night around 3:00 a.m. The suspect was dressed in black, and was wearing a ski mask and a hooded sweatshirt to hide his face. He then forced the mother and the 6-year-old girl to remove their clothes at gunpoint.
When the girl took her clothes off, the mother made a grab at the intruder in attempt to disarm the suspect. The mother was shot five times in multiple areas of her body. Despite the event, the injured mother continued to stop Hunter, to stop him from reaching her daughter. She had managed to remove his ski mask and hooded sweatshirt as she succesfully pushed him out of the residence.
The mother and the 6-year-old reached a neighbor’s apartment, where they called 911 for medical assistance. By the time the medical team arrived, the mother passed out on the neighbor’s floor and Hunter had already fled the scene.
She was then transported to the Palmetto Richland Trauma Unit, where she underwent life-saving surgery.
Hunter was caught after police lifted DNA from the ski mask and it matched the suspect who was in a database due to a previous crime.
Hunter has a record of convicted burglary in the first degree, attempted murder, criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the third degree and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Hunter was sentenced to 45 years in prison and he will not be eligible for parole due to the violent nature of the crimes.
