Abused, Abandoned German Shepherd Found Next To Busy Long Island Freeway, Like This!

The cruelty and heartlessness of people can just be astounding. This photo says it all. It’s nice to have a happy ending once  in a while.

A ‘frightened’ German Shepherd has been found with his mouth duct-taped shut by a busy Long Island highway.

The young dog – believed to be two or three years old – was abandoned by a ‘truly heartless individual’, police said.

The friendly pet had been left by the side of the road with its muzzle taped together, leaving him unable to eat or drink.

Suffolk County SPCA said the terrified dog was found by the side of Mountauk Highway, in Lindenhurst, New York, by a member of the public on Saturday.

‘To leave this dog unable to eat or drink, abandoned and frightened on a busy road is heartbreaking,’ SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

He told NBC News that the dog ‘didn’t seem to be in this condition for long, so we believe this is something that happened last night or sometime late yesterday’.

Gross added that the German Shepherd was scared when he was found, but is otherwise healthy and is not afraid of humans despite the traumatic ordeal.

He is now in the care of an animal shelter.

‘He’s the kind of dog who if he ran away on his own, he would walk right up to you,’ Gross said.

‘I can say whoever did this is a truly heartless individual.’

Suffolk County SPCA are offering $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever taped up the dog’s mouth and abandoned him.

‘People who hurt animals like this hurt people,’ Gross said.
