BIG BOYCOTT Pushback Against Racist Sam’s Club CEO On Social Media

If you are a member of Sam’s Club, part of the Walmart corporation dynasty, ya gotta wonder, “What the heck?” What’s the point of going after white suppliers? And why is Walmart not sending this gal packing? Twitter has sent a strong message to the retail giant.

WND: Social media users have ignited a firestorm against Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer, characterizing her criticism of a supplier with an all-white team of representatives – and her reluctance to do business with them – as an overt act of racism.

At the same time, Brewer’s received some staunch support for her statement from the CEO of Walmart, the parent of Sam’s Club, who’s come out with a statement saying she’s done nothing wrong.

The brouhaha started with a recent CNN interview, during which Brewer said diversity in her company was a top priority, so much so that she “demand[s] it within my team,” she said.

As Mediaite reported, Brewer went on during the interview, saying: “Every now and then, you have to nudge your partners and you have to speak up and speak out. And I try to use my platform for that. … I try to mentor many women inside my company and outside the company because I think it’s important.”

And it’s this statement on CNN that sparked the social-media backlash: “Just today, we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting. I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier’s] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like levels down. So I’m going to place a call to him.”

For that, Twitter users called for a boycott of Sam’s Club.

One wrote, Mediaite found: “As a White person I need a safe space from racist blacks. I do not feel safe at Sam’s Club. #BoycottRacistSamsClub.”

Another: “Just canceled my membership. #BoycottRacistSamsClub. CEO MUST be fired!”

Another: “You’re a bigot if you’re offended a black CEO tells her suppliers they have too many ‘caucasian males.’”

And on Facebook, Edward Thomas Martins wrote, Mediaite found: “As a white male, I am deeply offended by the CEO of Sam’s Club clearly racist attitudes towards white males. My family and I will be shopping at Costco. Thank you.”

The president and CEO of Sam’s Club parent company, Walmart Stores, Inc., Doug McMillion, sent out a statement saying he supports Brewer.

He also said his company does indeed ask “our suppliers to prioritize the talent and diversity of their sales teams,” he said, Mediaite reported.

McMillion went on: “Roz [Brewer] was simply trying to reiterate that we believe diverse and inclusive teams make for a stronger business. That’s all there is to it and I support that important ideal.”
