Authorities have arrested a 25-year-old man in Ireland after he confessed to raping his girlfriend while she slept.
Magnus Meyer Hustveit, 25, admitted to his girlfriend, 28, that he used her “body for my gratification” while they dated, Metro UK reports.
According to Hustveit, he convinced himself that the act was a victimless crime due to the fact that she was asleep when it happened. He reportedly assaulted her 10 times over the course of one year, from 2011 to 2012.
The 28-year-old first became suspicious in 2012 after she woke up and found herself covered in what she suspected was semen. A few weeks later, the woman awoke to find her boyfriend masturbating while watching porn on his laptop near her.
When they broke up, the woman asked him for an explanation via email. He then sent her a message wherein he admitted to raping her at least 10 times while she slept, and said that he touched her at least three times a week.
“I guess it must be under ten times,” the message read. “It is really difficult. I did it for short-term gratification. I convinced myself it was a victimless crime because you were asleep.”
The email continued: “I didn’t want to hurt you, I just wanted to come. I used the fact I wasn’t allowed to watch porn or masturbate as an excuse. Now I’ve written this, you can have me prosecuted. I hope you won’t.”
Hustveit has since been taken to Central Criminal Court where he pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. He was then given a seven year suspended sentence.
