Police are investigating a report of someone shooting at cars in the La Cantera area on the Northwest Side.  No injuries have been reported and there is no report on whether cars have been hit by the gunfire.  San Antonio Police Department spokesman Douglas Greene said the shooting was on La Cantera off Interstate 10 in San Antonio.

From MySanAntonio.com:

Police dispatched a large number of units to the area, including a helicopter to search for a suspect. Several roads in the area have been blocked off and three nearby schools are keeping all students and faculty inside.

Greene advised motorists to find an alternate route. A Tweet from the City of San Antonio’s official account called it an “active shooter situation (that is) currently being investigated.”

The Northwest Side shopping center area, located about 16 miles from downtown San Antonio, has dozens of shops, restaurants, apartments and other establishments such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas and TopGolf and is close to a large highway interchange.

Northside Independent School District spokesman Barry Perez said three elementary campuses —Monroe May, Leon Springs and Bonnie Ellison — are all on “modified lockdown,” meaning indoor activities are happening as usual, but entries into the school are being limited and monitored. He said outdoor activities like P.E. and recess will be conducted inside the buildings until the situation is under control.
