Teens Race To Death By Drinking This Cocktail

The ingenuity of teens is endless when it comes to finding ways to get into trouble and get high. Endless until they die, that is. These kids are just the first few who have been lost to the latest concoction called “Dew Shine,” and it’s a deadly mix. A mix that has fallen below the radar of local poison control authorities.

Two Tennessee teens have died and two more have become sick after consuming a deadly cocktail known as “Dewshine,” which is a combination of Mountain Dew and racing fuel.

After drinking the mixture on January, 16-year-old Logan Stevenson died the next day while 16-year-old JD Bryam died days later at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to Greenbrier Police Chief KD Smith, teens are drinking the cocktail for the methanol as a cheap and quick way to get messed up.

“I think they were trying to substitute the methanol that’s in racing fuel for alcohol,” Smith said. “Methanol is metabolized to very, very strong acid. The pH of the blood goes so low, it’s incompatible with life.”

“A lot of people refer to it as ‘moonshine on steroids.’ A lot of people call it ‘Dewshine,’” Smith continued.

Tennessee Poison Center Medical Director Donna Seger says that there have four known cases of Dewshine consumption in Tennessee, with the other two teens being successfully treated. It is not yet known if the issue is a widespread problem.

“If it hadn’t been for the deaths, we probably wouldn’t have noticed,” she said.
