Fake Terror Attack at Cannes…No One is Laughing

A group of men using a helicopter and a boat with the ISIS flag waving pulled up to an exclusive hotel in Antibes, in what turned out to be a practical joke.  Evidently, there are people who think it’s great fun to fill a boat with men dressed in black and wearing what looked like suicide vests and have them invade the hotel as a black helicopter flies overhead.

The “attack” was made at the  Hotel du Cap in Antibes.  It is a very upscale hotel that caters to the extremely wealthy.  At the time of the “attack” , Vanity Fair editor in chief] Graydon Carter and his wife Anna were right there watching on in horror.

The hotels guests were calmed down and then they were told it was a police exercise.  The problem is the French geniuses in charge of the operation decided it was best not to say anything beforehand and allow everyone to think it was real.  Someone could have had a heart attack or some well armed individual could have decided to take a few of the “terrorists with him if he was going to die anyway.  The word ill-conceived would be putting it mildly.

From The New York Post Page Six:

One witness said: “A helicopter and men with suicide vests and a fake ISIS flag pulled up by boat on the water in front of the Hotel du Cap’s Grill restaurant. Diners including [Vanity Fair editor in chief] Graydon Carter and his wife Anna, plus [Alice + Olivia designer] Stacey Bendet were sitting in shock. Hotel security got rid of the men but everyone was stunned.

“Nobody knew if it was a stunt or not. Some people were panic-stricken. But they were later told it was a police training exercise. If so, why was there no warning?”

Another guest said, “People’s reactions were a combination of, ‘It’s a hoax’ and truly alarmed.” A third witness added, “They are now saying it was kids playing a joke but half the restaurant got up and left and all the hotel managers came running down. It was terrifying.”
