Rep Patrick Murphy, who is running for Marco Rubio’s seat in the Senate has been found to be at best embellishing his work record to use as a selling point for his candidacy. At worst, they are downright lies. Here is what he has said:
“I believe that my background as a CPA and a small business owner is exactly what we need to put our country back on track.”
CBS4 decided to investigate. What they found is that Murphy was never a small business owner and that while he is a CPA now, he didn’t pass until his 9th try. And even then, he had to take the test in Vermont, because their standards are much lower that Florida’s. He was able to get Colorado to accept his Vermont results and then he became a CPA.
“Well, first of all when I graduated college I went to work at Deloitte & Touche, I got my CPA license and I spent years going to numerous Fortune 500 companies, looking for inefficiencies, waste and fraud.”
CBS4 discovered that Murphy was never a CPA while employed at Deloitte and Touche and my guess is that if he did discover any fraud, it would have had to knock him down and slap his face a few times before he discovered it based on his 9 tries to pass the test. His title there was audit assistant. Murphy also said he owned Coastal Environment, which helped clean up the BP spill. He claimed the business was doing well and won several contracts. The business isn’t doing well and doesn’t have a single contract.He didn’t own it, it’s his father’s company.
Murphy is continuing to tout his business record. Only in liberal land can you get away with that.
