Former police union official cops plea in $20 million Social Security disability scam

A ringleader in a mammoth Social Security disability scam that netted dozens of retired cops and firefighters pleaded guilty Friday.

John Minerva, 62, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Manhattan Supreme Court for his role in leading the huge scam where former cops and firefighters pretended to have mental health problems in order to collect disability checks.

He copped a plea to grand larceny and conspiracy in exchange for a maximum of three years behind bars after he’s done testifying and providing information to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Minerva, a former detectives’ union employee, will get to plead guilty to a lesser charge at the end of two years and can get a probation or one to three year prison sentence. He also has to pay $315,000 in restitution .

His lawyer, Glenn Hardy, said the deal is “in his best interest.”
