Joseph diGenova, the former U. S. attorney for the District of Columbia under Reagan, told Lifezette magazine that his sources in the CIA have turned over a list of leakers loyal to Barack Obama to the Department of Justice and Jeffrey Sessions. There is no confirmation of that fact as of yet. That could be because the DOJ is doing an investigation into the alleged leakers or possibly the list was never given to the DOJ.
Joe diGenova is generally reliable but we don’t know about his confidential source inside the CIA. However, if it is true, it could have major ramifications. During his 8 years, Barack Obama prosecuted 11 leakers, sending most of them to prison. Many times political operatives fall on their swords rather than implicate higher ups. But Obama is out of office after dragging the democratic party to it’s lowest level since before the Great Depression. The usual rules may not apply.
Sessions has no choice. He has to prosecute every one of these leakers, otherwise all liberals embedded in the Trump administration will feel free to leak at will. After a few convictions, the public will start assuming every leak is Obama inspired which will take a yuge weapon out of the democrat’s playbook.
Apparently, the Obama administration wanted to leave plenty of ammunition for leakers to keep hot the theme that Trump and his allies are connected to Moscow.
“U.S. allies, including the British and the Dutch, had provided information describing meetings in European cities between Russian officials — and others close to Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin — and associates of President-elect Trump, according to three former U.S. officials who requested anonymity in discussing classified intelligence,” The Times reports. “Separately, U.S. intelligence agencies had intercepted communications of Russian officials, some of them within the Kremlin, discussing contacts with Trump’s associates.”
It is unclear if the “associates” were Trump campaign officials.
