The Duggar family of TLC’s 19 Kids And Counting fame is frequently controversial for their fundamentalist values. Now Anna Duggar is under fire for retweeting an anti-abortion message that used the hashtags #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackHistoryMonth.
The tweet, which originated from Radiance Foundation, reads “human beings should be remembered not dismembered. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter.” An accompanying photo reads “Because of the violence of abortion over 16 million black people are history.”
Anna, who is now pregnant with her fourth child, faced an immediate backlash for comparing the struggle of African Americans to abortion.
“So full of Christian love NOT!,” @Kekemr replied. “And you have so many African-American friends NOT No longer watch the show!”
“You are one of the most ignorant people to have ever walked this earth how dare you post that disgusting quote,” @JeanaDorsey wrote. “You have no idea of the struggles and heartache of being African American has been and is how hard it is to get people to accept black history month as a month in general.” Sources: Twitter, The Feminist Wire Image via Instagram
Though Anna has not responded, many people favorited the tweet and defended her.
The hashtag #BlackLivesMatter was created Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tomet. All three women, who are black and identify as queer, created the hashtag as a call to action “after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was posthumously placed on trial for his own murder and the killer, George Zimmerman, was not held accountable for the crime he committed,” Garza wrote for The Feminist Wire.
