On Monday, the Republican chairs of three U.S. House committees demanded that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg testify about his reported plans to prosecute former President Donald Trump.

Bragg’s office in New York intends to indict and arrest Trump this week, the former president said on social media on Saturday.

Federal prosecutors declined to prosecute Trump in connection with alleged “hush money” payments he made to former adult film star Stormy Daniels years ago. Still, Bragg’s office wants to charge Trump criminally, the former president said on Truth Social.

Trump claims that Bragg, a George Soros-funded prosecutor, intends to go after him for alleged campaign finance law violations that he denies ever occurred.

In addition, he has denied having an affair with Daniels.

Given the investigations into Trump that have been ongoing since his first year in office in 2017, this case reeks of corruption.

It also smells like meddling in a presidential election, as the former president stated on Truth Social Sunday night.

In a letter to Bragg, three leading Republican congressmen echoed that sentiment.

Republican Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, James Comer of Kentucky, and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin signed a letter demanding answers from the Manhattan district attorney.

Jordan, Comer, and Steil are the chairs of the Judiciary, Oversight, and Administration committees.

“You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and currently declared candidate for that office,” the letter said.

It continued, “This indictment comes after years of your office searching for a basis – any basis – on which to bring charges, ultimately settling on a novel legal theory untested anywhere in the country and one that federal authorities declined to pursue.”

“If these reports are accurate, your actions will erode confidence in the evenhanded application of justice and unalterably interfere in the course of the 2024 presidential election.”

The trio informed Bragg that they expect to speak with him in person.

“In light of the serious consequences of your actions, we expect that you will testify about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision,” the letter said.

The letter also reminded Bragg of reports from 14 months ago in which he expressed doubts about a criminal case against Trump.

“In January 2022, soon after you took office, you expressed doubts about President Trump’s case and suspended the investigation,” the lawmakers wrote.

The leftist establishment media pounced on Bragg after it was revealed that he had reservations about putting Trump on trial.

Surprisingly, news that the Manhattan District Attorney may go after Trump comes after an election interference case against the former president in Georgia arguably collapsed last month.

In February, Emily Kohrs, the grand jury forewoman in that case, went on a media tour and appeared ecstatic about assisting left-wing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ anti-Trump efforts.

While it is only speculation, it appears that criminal investigations into Trump are linked. Perhaps each was intended to act as a failsafe for the other if one failed.

With the Georgia case seemingly on the verge of collapse, Bragg resurfaced with possible plans to indict the former president.

Republicans now have a majority in the House, and they are using their influence to demand the answers that every American deserves.
