Daniel Ramirez was admitted to Seattle Children’s Hospital on October 15, with slurred speech, drooling, incontinence, and pain in his leg. At first his parents Marijo de Guzman and Jose Ramirez, of Bellingham, Washington, thought he had a stomach ache but tests revealed he was one of hundreds of children to have recently contracted a rare virus called acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), which attacks the brain and the spinal cord. The disease was first identified in 2014 when more than 100 children were hospitalized. Scores of them are yet to make a full recovery.
According to DailyMail.co.uk:
Daniel suffered two strokes between October 21 and October 27. The disease was too advanced for doctors to control and he was pronounced brain dead at 1.33pm on Sunday. Daniel was kept on a ventilator until Monday. He was one of eight children admitted to Seattle Children’s Hospital with AFM, according to The Kansas City Star. Five have been released, two remain in hospital.
Although officials do not know the specific cause of the illness, the CDC reports that the polio-like illness is most similar to illnesses caused by enteroviruses, West Nile virus, herpesvirus, and the adenovirus. Can I put the question out there, does this in any way have anything to do with the recent acceleration of migration into the states? Many are not tested as before and the possibility of disease is very likely. We have seen a spike in sicknesses that haven’t been in the states for years. Would it be to much for people entering the states just be checked as we do with food and animals? Is it to hard? This poor boy never had a chance, as many others are right now. There has to be a way. Wha
