Companies abandoned Donald Trump during his campaign, most notably Macy’s, whose sales fell quickly and who had to announce closing of many of it’s stores. But there are 30 stores who haven’t abandoned the Trump name, but 23 of them are involved with Ivanka and not Donald. Now, Shannon Coulter is making a move against those thirty brands in an effort to force them to drop the Trumps. She is leading a boycott against these companies. The risk is high for these companies. If Trump succeeds as president and they drop him or Ivanka, they will pay a heavy price.
But the risk for Coulter could be even greater. Some enterprising conservative will compile a list of companies serviced by Coulter’s media marketing enterprise. Have you ever heard of a liberal boycott actually working? How about a conservative boycott? Think Target. Trump merchandise is high end and is difficult to buy with your EBT card, so a boycott is doomed to failure. Who will lose more business? Companies that carry Trump merchandise or companies that remain aligned with Coulter?
Here is the list of the 30 companies Coulter wants boycotted:
- 6pm
- Amazon
- Belk
- Bellacor
- Bloomingdales
- Bluefly
- Bon-Ton and Carson’s
- Bed, Bath and Beyond
- Burlington Coat Factory
- Century 21
- Dillards
- DSW
- Hudson Bay
- HSN
- Jet
- Lord & Taylor
- Macy’s
- Marshalls and TJ Maxx
- Neiman Marcus
- Nordstrom
- Overstock
- Perfumania
- Scion Hotels
- Saks Off Fifth
- Stein Mart
- Trump Golf Courses
- Trump Hotels
- Trump Winery
- Wayfair
- Zappos
Coulter explained her reasoning behind including Ivanka’s products as well:
“If she were not campaigning for Donald Trump, I would be very happy for her business and proud of her success… The boycott is actually a mark of respect for her.”
While Shoes.com pulled Ivanka’s shoe line, other retailers haven’t been as quick to give in to the boycott.
Nordstrom responded to a letter they received saying:
“We hope that offering a vendor’s products isn’t misunderstood as us taking a political position; we’re not. We recognize our customers can make choices about what they purchase based on personal views & we’ll continue to give them options.”
Ivanka Trump frequently uses #womenwhowork in many of her social media posts to show her support for female empowerment.
Ivanka addressed the boycott on “Good Morning America”:
“My advocacy of women, trying to empower them in every aspect of their lives, started long before the presidential campaign did. I’ve never politicized that message. People who are seeking to politicize it because they disagree with the politics of my father — there’s nothing I can do to change that.”
During an interview with “60 Minutes,” Ivanka said that the presidency is “much more important” than the success of the Trump brand.
With holiday shopping rapidly approaching and such an extensive list of stores to boycott, it will be interesting to see if #grabyourwallet impacts sales this season.
