MAN INVADES HOME TO STEAL CONFEDERATE FLAG & ATTACKS OWNER!

An argument over a Confederate flag resulted in a Racine man being charged after he allegedly went into a woman’s house to remove it after she refused to take it down, according to a criminal complaint by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

Tajaun Boatner, 37, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with criminal trespassing, misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct, misdemeanor theft and obstruction of a police officer. If convicted of all charges, Boatner faces up to three years three months in prison and/or fined up to $41,000.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman called the Racine Police Department after Boatner got into an argument with her over her having a Confederate flag hanging in her window. Boatner allegedly pushed the woman down after she took the flag down and put in a different window.

The woman told police he did politely ask her to take the flag down from her kitchen window before she put it in her bathroom window. After she moved it, Boatner called her names and the two began yelling at each other. She told Boatner he didn’t pay her rent and he couldn’t tell her what to do. She told him to leave her alone, but he walked up on to her porch, opened the doorway to her home, and pushed her down on to the floor of her kitchen. He then went into the home, walked into the bathroom and took the flag out of the window.

A neighbor told police that the woman called Boatner a racial slur, but Boatner never called the woman any names. The witness also told police he saw Boatner push the woman down, go inside the residence, take the flag, and leave with it.

While the officer talked with Boatner he became “extremely argumentative” and walked away from him.

During the arrest, the officer told Boatner to put his hands behind his back, but he resisted and pulled his hands away to keep the officer from getting his hands. Once Boatner was handcuffed, he continued to be loud and refused to follow the officer’s orders. Another officer had to help spread Boatner’s feet apart so that he could be searched for weapons. Officers also had to forcefully push Boatner into the wagon to transport him to jail and he kicked his feet against the door to prevent it from closing.

A $100 cash bond was set for Boatner, who is expected to have a pre-trial conference at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 10 in front of Racine County Circuit Court Judge Charles Constantine.
