A 31-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he refused to stop protesting outside a church that was hosting a breakfast with Santa event, police said.
Police were called about 10 a.m. to St. Mark United Methodist Church in the 1100 block of West Chambers Street for a trespassing complaint. A church representative asked protesters to leave multiple times, but they refused, police said.
The protesters “were upset that the folks there were lying to the children about Santa,” Officer Brian McQueen said.
When officers arrived, they found three men demonstrating outside the church. Two left but Aaron Urbanski of Joshua wouldn’t go and “continued causing a disturbance,” police said.
Urbanski, 31, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass. He was booked into the Johnson County Law Enforcement Center.
Cleburne Mayor Scott Cain said the city plans to take special measures for the Christmas parade that was rescheduled for Sunday evening because of weather.
“Don’t mess with Santa,” Cain said in a Facebook post. “While I understand folks right to protest, Cleburne loves Santa and those protesters who were naughty and broke the law when they trespassed were arrested promptly. Guess they wanted coal in their stockings to go with a court appearance.”
