Three men were out crabbing in a small rowboat when the water near them began to churn. They began to record it, when the source of the churning became known and the men became very scared by what was causing it.
Just three guys out in a tiny rowboat, crabbing off the coast of Anderson Island. What could possibly go wrong?
Turns out, they had a pretty scary experiencing, as they took in the scene of a pod of orcas in the distance. Conversation is light as they capture video of the orcas and things seem quite safe. Then they looked down to find they were surrounded.
Steven Sloan posted the video on Facebook, explaining, “My buddies and I were crabbing off of the west coast of Anderson Island and even though we didn’t really catch anything, we got to see the pod of orcas everyone has been talking about! We were in a little aluminum rowboat and we think that the sound of the rope being pulled along the side of the boat is what attracted the babies because right after we pulled up the pot the pod headed right for us.”
Um. Scary, right? It’s pretty hard to make a quick getaway in a rowboat, for sure.
Sloan adds: “Most of the fun from this video comes from how scared we (really just me) were so some profanity is used. WARNING: inappropriate words are used (the s-word) we are sorry but we were scared. However feel free to laugh at how I respond to a scary situation like this (I yell run even though we are in a rowboat) and enjoy the beautiful orcas at the beautiful Anderson Island! Others in the boat are Michael Niccum and Eugene Dight.”
Their experience may have been a little terrifying, but also amazing.
One commenter on the YouTube video noted: “I hope they realize how privileged they are to have had such an encounter.”
Another commented: “Did you notice how gentle their moves were once they got closer? as if they knew they had to be careful with those tiny hoomans on the boat.”
