During the warm up before a game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Dallas Wings, the Minnesota players wore uniforms that said, “Change Starts With Us. Justice & Accountability” on the front and “Black Lives Matter on the front. The four policemen working security for the game walked out immediately.
President of the Minneapolis Police Federation Lt. Bob Kroll supported the police officers’ actions, saying: “I commend them for it.”
He also indicated that other police officers may follow suit. “If [the players] are going to keep their stance, all officers may refuse to work there,” Kroll said.
Lynx player Maya Moore said her actions were motivated by “a longtime problem of racial profiling.”
Kroll also told the Star Tribune that rumors of eight officers walking out are untrue.
“They only have four officers working the event because the Lynx have such a pathetic draw,” he said.
