Mother Takes Photo Of Her Child’s School Lunch Which Goes Viral
(Opposing Views) A student’s mother decided to share a photo of the lunch her child reportedly received at James Hurst Elementary in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the photo went viral almost immediately.
The photo features a piece of fish topped with a bun, along with some corn. WAVY posted it on their Facebook page and it has been shared more than 1,600 times.
According to a school menu from Portsmouth Public Schools, the menu for March 14, the day the photo was apparently taken, included spicy cajun fish with brown rice, a cold cut turkey sub, a chef salad, steamed carrots and a side salad, a choice of fruit and milk.
Portsmouth Public School’s Food Service Coordinator Jim Gehlhoff defended the food in a statement to WAVY. “We appreciate this parent’s concern about the presentation of this school lunch. Poor lighting and food presentation make this lunch unappealing… The meal in this photo and other meals served by Portsmouth Public Schools meet nutritional and USDA requirements.”
