It was a normal day when a 35-year-old was working on some remodeling in his basement. That is until he came across a mysterious suitcase filled with over $20 grand!
Imgur user branik12 shared a series of photos of the “treasure found in a home remodel.”
“My family and I have been living in our house we bought some years back,” he wrote on his post. “The house was built in the late 40s. I am a 35-year-old do-it-yourselfer so I had remodeled everything on the first and second floors when it came time to remodel the basement.
That’s when he got to work and started pulling off old walls and ceiling. In between some support beams, branik12 looked up and noticed a little green suitcase.

“I took the box outside and gathered the wife,” he wrote. “It has something inside, but not heavy like coins or gold bars. Might get lucky though. Could be old sports cards?”

He finally opened the box and revealed packaging that looked like wax paper.

Beneath the paper was some newspapers stuffed in there to protect the box’s contents, and it was dated as March 25, 1951, which the homeowner guesses was around the time the box was hidden.
When he pulled out the wax paper, he made a startling discovery. Branik12 realized that the wax paper was wrapped around stacks of money!

“Now I am really interested! This looks green! There’s money in here! I am guessing a thousand or more. Is that a twenty,” he wrote of his thoughts as he opened up each package.
He ended up getting more than he ever expected. The first stack of cash was in fact a twenty dollar bill, but not just one — a couple thousand dollars worth!
“We were freaking out at this point. This doesn’t happen to use,” he wrote on the post.
