The #NeverTrumper slammed President Trump again this week saying the administration is substantially unprepared for a coronavirus outbreak.
Mitt Romney, who was the only Republican senator to break party lines and vote in favor of Donald Trump being impeached at his Senate trial earlier this month, is now attacking the president again. This time, the Utah senator is claiming that the Trump administration is totally unprepared for a potential coronavirus outbreak.
As Trump tried to tamp concerns over the coronavirus in New Delhi, saying that the situation was “under control” and is a “problem that’s going to go away,” Romney was confronting officials in Washington D.C. at a private briefing on the virus. As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Romney claims to not think Trump is doing enough to stop coronavirus from spreading within the United States.
“I’m very disappointed in the degree to which we’ve prepared for a pandemic, both in terms of protective equipment and in terms of medical devices that would help people once they are infected,” Romney said, according to The Hill.
“At this stage, I think we are substantially under-investing in what would be appropriate for a setting which could be serious,” the failed 2012 presidential candidate continued.
Romney concluded by saying that he hopes a massive epidemic can be avoided, but added “we don’t know what the future holds.”
“I think we should be pulling out all the stops,” he said.
As a proud never-Trumper, Romney is undoubtedly hoping that the president comes out of this situation looking bad. Romney’s concerns about how Trump is handling the coronavirus could be valid, but they also can’t be trusted given his past moves against the president. After Romney turned on the Republican Party by voting to impeach Trump, he threw all his credibility out the window, especially when it comes to situations regarding the president.
