The Oklahoma City Police Department first announced that said Michael Winchester, 52, was shot at the airport at 1:12 p.m. local time. Two hours later, it was announced that Winchester, a punter for the Oklahoma Sooners football team from 1984-e86, had died. His son, James Winchester, is a long snapper for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries. We continue to work with the local authorities investigating this incident. As a result of the police investigation, local flight operations have been halted,” a Southwest Airlines statement said.
Capt. Paco Balderrama, the public information officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said his department had received “reports of shots fired in the parking lot area of Will Rogers World Airport.”
“We’re really asking for everybody to stay away from the airport area. All the streets are blocked off,” he added.
