Oberlin College President Turns Down All Student’s Demands

In a major blow to the collective black student psyche, the president of Oberlin College dismissed out of hand the 14 pages of demands that the students turned in.  Some of those demands included a salary for any student who participates in a protest against the school.  A safe place for black students only.  The immediate firing of school employees that they don’t approve of.  The authorship of the demands is unknown but a couple of hundred students signed a Google petition, approving of the demands.

And they are demands.  The document contains the following warning:

“These are demands and not suggestions.  If these demands are not taken seriously, immediate action from the Africana community will follow.”
Bluff called.   Oberlin president Marvin Krislov, responded rather gruffly, stating:

“Some of the challenges outlined in the document resonate with me and many members of our community, including our trustees.  However, some of the solutions it proposes are deeply troubling. I will not respond directly to any document that explicitly rejects the notion of collaborative engagement. Many of its demands contravene principles of shared governance. And it contains personal attacks on a number of faculty and staff members who are dedicated and valued members of this community.”

It remains to be seen what the immediate action pursued by the Africana community would be, but judging from the college’s response, I wouldn’t be too certain that the college could just set many of them adrift if they step too far out of line.  This has been College Fall, with students across the country making ridiculous demands and for the most part getting them.  Just wait until they enter the real world and they demand their boss give them “safe spaces”.

It’s always safe in the unemployment line.  Boola Boola.
