Over Twenty Million Dollars In Gold Stolen In Brazen Airport Heist….
Authorities in Canada are looking for an unnamed person or organized crime gang who stole more than $20 million in gold earlier this week in what has been described as one of the largest robberies in Canadian history.
According to the Toronto Sun, investigators initially stated that an unknown person or group carried 3,600 pounds of gold through Pearson International Airport in the Toronto area of Canada, which clients from around the world frequently use to transport mined gold. According to the site, the airport handles 45% of Canada’s aviation freight traffic from 175 nations across the world.

According to Peel Regional Police, a plane carrying a container containing more than C$20 million ($14.8 million) in gold and other “high-value goods” was stolen from the airport’s cargo holding area.
“An aircraft arrived here at the airport in the early evening,” Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn said. “As per normal procedure, the aircraft was unloaded, and cargo was transported from the aircraft to a holding cargo facility.”
“This is very rare,” Duivesteyn said, adding the gold was removed by “illegal means.”
According to The Sun, investigators believe the movie-style theft was carried out locally and have initiated an inquiry into organized crime groups in the region, which have either individuals or allies stationed at Pearson, watching airport movements.

According to the publication, detectives do not believe the gold was stolen to pay terrorists, and officials would have shut down parts of the airport as soon as they learned of the crime.
“We feel this to be an isolated incident,” Duivesteyn said. “For the public worried about flying out, there should be no concern. We do not consider this a threat to public safety.”
Investigators are unsure if the gold was stolen from the back of an employee’s pickup vehicle or smuggled out of the country via numerous international flights.
According to The Sun, Pearson International Airport has a history of gold heists dating back to 1952, when only four out of ten shipments heading for Montreal arrived. At least four more scams were carried out at the airport, with one crime involving $68.5 million in gold at the time, or roughly $164.6 million today.
