Pervert Subway Rider Picks His Victim, But Chooses The Wrong Girl To Grope

NYPD Detective Jennifer Rosario was on the job, keeping an eye out for crime while riding a Harlem-bound subway in Manhattan on Wednesday, reports the New York Daily News.

She just probably didn’t imagine she’d be the victim. Police say the plainclothes officer felt something repeatedly touch her thigh while riding the Lexington Avenue line around 4:15pm and looked down to see a man’s exposed penis, reports the New York Post.

Osa Ayanru, 38, who police say was carrying a stun gun, was swiftly arrested and charged with forcible touching, sexual abuse, and possession of a weapon.

More On Jennifer Rosario:

An NYPD cop honored earlier this week was back to her heroics Thursday — helping to nab a perverted parolee moments after he groped and rubbed up against a 22-year-old woman on a crowded subway car.

The three-officer team that caught the sicko — a convicted killer — in the act included Officer Jennifer Rosario, who just two days earlier was lauded as a Transit District “MVP” at a medal day ceremony.

Rosario and her colleagues spotted Phillip Smalls, 48, behaving strangely as he boarded a southbound 4 train at Grand Central around 7:50 a.m., police said.

The trio followed Smalls and noticed him gravitating towards a crowded part of the train car — a common tactic used by subway sex criminals.

“Their posture changes while they’re doing what they’re doing,” NYPD Transit Chief Joseph Fox said. “They see this guy. They can tell by his mannerisms that he’s fitting this profile the way he’s acting,”

Smalls used the crush of commuters to force himself upon his victim, cops said.

“She knew what was happening. She was shaken up,” Fox said. “There was no place to move. The train was crowded.”

As Smalls started rubbing his groin against the young woman, Rosario, along with Sergeant Ivan Rodriguez and Detective Rikki Roodal, moved in.

Fox lauded the team, saying the arrest was more than just being in the right place at the right time.

“This is one of our best teams. This is a very active unit,” he said.

Rosario, 37, joined the Transit Manhattan Task Force Anti-Crime Unit four years ago and has logged more than 200 arrests.

Smalls, who also goes by Perry McCauller and served over 25 years in prison, was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse. He looked haggard at his arraignment in Manhattan criminal court Thursday, where a judge set bail at $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond. Even if he pays that, he’ll still remain locked up on a “parole hold.”

The Bronx man was serving a lifetime parole after his release from jail in 2013.

He and another man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Ronald Brooks outside the Astoria Houses in October 1986.

Smalls’ family rushed to his defense Thursday night, telling the Daily News that he was minding his own business while on his way to work at a warehouse.

“He’s been doing so good, he hasn’t been in in any trouble,” his mother-in-law Victoria Moss said. “I don’t believe it was him. He’s scared of women. He was away so long, he avoids women.”
