Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner sharply attacked President Donald Trump during remarks Tuesday at the President’s House site in Old City, saying he expects a future in which Trump’s planned White House ballroom is gone and pieces of it are sold as paperweights.
Speaking at what the source described as a slavery commemoration, Krasner called Trump “the embodiment of hate,” “the embodiment of ignorance,” and “the embodiment of depriving people of their vote and their education,” according to the quoted remarks.
Krasner Predicts a Future Demolition
Krasner told the crowd that a slavery exhibit would be built at the site, NBC10 Philadelphia reported, and framed his comments around what he said would happen years from now.
“What is going to be happening is in about 10 or 15 years, we are all going to be sitting here with smiles on our faces because we, thanks to Michael and all of you, will have won. They will have lost,” Krasner said, according to the source.
He then described what he wanted on his desk: “I’m going to have a paperweight sitting on my desk. You know what that paperweight’s going to be? It’s going to be a piece of the ballroom after we all blow it up.”
Krasner said the demolition would take place “in an official ceremony” and suggested taxpayers could get money back by selling the pieces as paperweights.
Supreme Court Order Let Construction Continue
The remarks came after Trump thanked the Supreme Court following an order from Chief Justice John Roberts that allowed construction to move forward on Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project.
According to reporting cited in the source, Roberts’ one-page order paused a lower-court ruling that would have blocked aboveground construction without congressional approval. The order did not explain Roberts’ reasoning and was set to remain in effect until further action by the Supreme Court.
Trump praised the decision in a Truth Social post, writing, “We are grateful for the Decision of the United States Supreme Court.” He described the project as a “Military/Ballroom Complex” on White House grounds and called it “so vital for National Security.”
