Imagine that as a kid you are forced to leave the house you grew up in. Now imagine that you are returning to the house almost 80 years later to look for forgotten items.
That was the situation for Rudi Schlattner, who fled Czechoslovakia as a child when German nationals were forced out of the country after World War II. When he returned to his hometown decades later, one of his top priorities was to visit the house in which he grew up. Besides just revisiting his former home again, which Schlattner’s father built, he also believed that somewhere in the house there were many items that were hidden by his father. His father put some items away in hiding in case the family ever returned to the house. The house is now a kindergarten, and has been renovated multiple times.
However, even though the chance of these items still being there were slim, Schlattner found a board in the attic with a small string coming out of it. When he pulled the board out, he found a collection of 1940s World War II items.
Check out what they found:
You know what they say, one mans junk is another mans treasure. While many of these items were just everyday things, almost a century later, they hold major historical value.
