A firefighter and Iraq War veteran was killed in a deliberate hit-and-run, Michigan police say.
Authorities say that a man driving a pickup truck fatally struck 35-year-old firefighter Dennis Rodeman in Lansing yesterday following a confrontation. Rodeman had been collecting money for a “Fill the Boot” fundraiser at the time.
Lansing police Capt. Jim Kraus said that the 22-year-old suspect “was upset for whatever reason” and circled back to deliberately hit Rodeman with his vehicle. The suspect left the scene in his pickup truck and eventually fled on foot before he was caught by police.
The unnamed suspect is being held on suspicion of murder, as well as felony fleeing and eluding.
Rodeman was a seven-year veteran of the Lansing Fire Department, and he previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He just got married two months ago, and his wife is expecting their first child.
